DSI Newsletters, Issue 24: Dr. Saponaro Elected ACP Fellow JUPITER, FL (1 July 2003) — Joseph Saponaro, MD, DABIM, FACP, CCRI, CPI, CCI, CCRC, CCRP, an internist and Pharmaceutical Physician practicing in Jupiter, Florida, has been elected a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (ACP), the society of internists. The distinction recognizes achievements in internal medicine, the specialty of adult medical care. Dr. Saponaro was elected upon recommendation of peers and the review of ACP's Credentials Subcommittee. In fact, he received a letter from Dr. Tooker, the Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of the ACP stating that in light of his outstanding credentials and well-prepared proposal, that his advancement to Fellow was approved early by the Board of Regents, based on the recommendations of the Credentials Subcommittee. He went on to congratulate him on reaching this significant achievement in his professional career and stated that he may now use the letters "FACP" after his name. Dr. Saponaro is the head of the Jupiter Preventive Internal Medicine Center and Principal Investigator at the Drug Study Institute where he practices Pharmaceutical Medicine. He works with the drug companies to study their medicines. Volunteering in a clinical trial can be educational and rewarding. He is affiliated with The Jupiter Medical Center in Jupiter, Florida, and the Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center where he admits his patients as an attending physician. In addition, he serves on the Ethics Committee at Jupiter Medical Center and the IRB at both Hospitals. He also belongs to the AMA, Palm Beach County Medical Society and the Florida Medical Society. In addition, he is a member of the American College of Preventive Medicine. He also achieved several board certifications in research including: CCRI (Certified Clinical Research Investigator) and CCRC (Certified Clinical Research Coordinator) by the ACRP (Association of Clinical Research Professionals); CCRP (Certified Clinical Research Professional) by SoCRA (Society of Clinical Research Associates); and is helping the AAPP (American Academy of Pharmaceutical Physicians) write their Board Certification in Clinical Research, CPI (Certified Physician Investigator). He is also active in teaching medical research at the local chapter of the ACRP. A graduate of Brooklyn College in 1977, Dr. Saponaro earned his medical degree from Noreste University School of Medicine in 1981, in Tampico, Mexico, completed his Fifth Pathway rotating internship at Brookdale Hospital Medical Center affiliated with Downstate School of Medicine, Brooklyn, New York in 1983, PGY-1 General Surgery NYU-Bellevue Medical Center in 1984, PGY-2 General Surgery St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center of NY in 1986, PGY-1 and ½ of 2 in Internal Medicine at The Jamaica Hospital in Queens, NY, ½ PGY-2 AND PGY-3 Internal Medicine at The Stamford Hospital in Stamford, CT 1989, and then pursued subspecialty training in ICU, the treatment of Critical Care, at The Stamford Hospital in 1990. Then he moved to Jupiter, Florida with his wife, Melody I. Sanger, BSN, RN, MD, CCRI, CCRC, CCRP and began private practice in sunny Florida where they have a boutique type of practice entitled CCC (Concierge Care Club) where he limits his private practice to 500 patients who receive extra special personal attention and Pharmaceutical Medicine with Dr. Sanger being the Director of Clinical Research at DSI (Drug Study Institute). The ACP (American College of Physicians) is the second-largest physician group in the United States. Membership includes more than 115,000 internists, related subspecialists, and medical students. Internists are specialists in the prevention, detection, and treatment of illnesses in adults. |
